Trades Barbering Tutor
Fixed Term – Part time 2026

About the role | Te kaupapa
There is a growing demand for trained Barbers and to meet this demand WelTec offers training for secondary school akonga through our Wellington Trades Barber Program.
Academic quality is the cornerstone of our School and as such we are seeking to appoint a Hairdresser or Barber with excellent interpersonal skills and strong customer service orientation who wants to develop themselves as an academic educator and pass on their Barbering skills to the secondary school akonga enrolled in our Trades Program.
Key Accountabilities | (Ngā takohanga matua)
- Course delivery, unit standard assessments and moderation
- Management of resources relating to the learning processes
- Regular progress reporting
- Working as a member of an academic team
You will be supported in this by an experienced team of educators.
The role is based at our brand-new Barber Training Salon in Petone and runs from January through to mid-December 2026. This is a part-time programme, with 2.5 days on site each week (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) with flexibility in the school holiday period. Our interactive salon offers secondary school ākonga valuable hands-on opportunities to develop their barbering & communication skills.
Experience and Qualifications
You will have at least 5 years’ experience in Hairdressing or Barbering and a New Zealand Certificate in Barbering, Level 4 or equivalent. Have established contacts within the profession, demonstrated planning and organisational ability and an ability to relate to youth. While preference will be given to applicants holding a tertiary teaching qualification, applications from experienced Hairdressers & Barbers with the desire to undertake study towards a teaching qualification will be considered.
