Pastoral Care Coordinator

Are you passionate about supporting rangatahi to thrive in their learning journey? Whitireia and WelTec are seeking a dedicated Pastoral Care Coordinator to join our Secondary School Connections team and play a vital role in the success and wellbeing of ākonga enrolled in Wellington Trades Academy programmes.

About the Role

In this dynamic and people‑focused position, you will provide high‑quality pastoral care, student support, and programme coordination to ensure learners are engaged, supported, and set up to succeed. You’ll work closely with tutors, schools, ākonga, and whānau to create a positive, safe, and inclusive environment that aligns with Ministry of Education guidelines and our organisational values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate enrolments, maintain accurate student records, and manage withdrawals and waitlists.
  • Monitor attendance, follow up on absences, and support student participation and engagement.
  • Prepare student information and reporting to assist tutors in tailoring learning support.
  • Provide pastoral guidance, behaviour support, and mentoring to help ākonga build independent learning skills.
  • Develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in partnership with ākonga and schools.
  • Support WTA events such as orientations, whānau days, and celebrations.
  • Build strong and positive relationships with students, schools, tutors, and community partners.
  • Contribute to a culturally safe environment, upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

 About You

You’ll bring a passion for supporting young people and creating meaningful learning pathways. You’ll also have:

  • A strong understanding of New Zealand secondary schools.
  • At least 3 years’ experience working with youth in the education sector.
  • Strong communication skills and intermediate Microsoft Office capability.
  • High standards of organisation, problem‑solving, and initiative.
  • The ability to build rapport with diverse learners and stakeholders.
