About the role

WelTec is seeking an experienced IT Tutor with strong practical and industry expertise in:

Networking, Cloud Computing and Cybersecurity.

This is a permanent, full-time position based at our Petone campus in Wellington. You will teach across certificate, diploma and bachelor's degree programmes and contribute to practical, industry-focused IT education.

Strong networking expertise is essential for this position. We are looking for someone who also has demonstrated capability in cloud technologies and cybersecurity and can confidently teach these areas in a practical tertiary learning environment.

We are particularly interested in candidates with current or recent hands-on industry experience who can bring real-world technical knowledge into the classroom.

Key technical areas

Applicants should be able to demonstrate practical capability across the following areas:

  • Networking – essential: network design, configuration, administration, troubleshooting, routing and switching, network services and related technologies.
  • Cloud Computing: practical experience with cloud platforms and services such as Microsoft Azure, AWS or equivalent.
  • Cybersecurity: network and systems security, security principles, vulnerabilities and threats, access control, risk management and practical security tools and techniques.

Key responsibilities

In this role you will:

  • Deliver engaging and practical lectures, tutorials and laboratory sessions.
  • Teach networking, cloud computing and cybersecurity subjects across a range of qualification levels.
  • Develop students' practical technical skills through hands-on learning.
  • Support and supervise student projects.
  • Contribute to assessment design, marking, moderation and course development.
  • Provide academic guidance and mentoring to students.
  • Maintain a positive, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • Contribute to programme and School activities as part of the wider teaching team.

Qualifications and experience

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  • A relevant postgraduate qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Networking, Cybersecurity or a closely related field.
  • Strong practical and industry experience in networking.
  • Demonstrated experience in cloud computing and cybersecurity.
