Health and Safety Advisor

We are seeking a capable individual with relevant skills and experience in the health and safety area to become part of the Health and Safety Team which will be based at the Petone campus, with a requirement to work across all campuses.

About the role | Te Kaupapa

Reporting to the Team Leader Health and Safety, you will work collaboratively with the wider team, who will guide and support you along the way to drive, influence and imbed health and safety into our organisation.

We are currently engaged in various initiatives to align the systems and practices of Whitireia and WelTec.  In this role there will be an opportunity for you to gain exposure to multiple aspects of health and safety in a complex environment. This role is a great way to start your career.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure incidents are timely managed and followed up where an investigation is required.
  • Ensure training and revalidation of health and safety activities are arranged and recorded within the electronic sharepoint system.
  • Conduct Health and Safety Audits and Reviews over all campuses ensuring all actions and outcomes are completed.
  • Ensure you keep up to date with various Acts and Regulations and have an awareness of programme deliveries and how they impact on health and safety.
  • Work closely with managers at all levels ensuring they are aware of their responsibilities and hazard/risk management requirements.
  • Assist your manager in monthly reporting to JLT.

About you

Our ideal candidate will have knowledge about health and safety and be aware of the various Acts and regulation and be customer focused.  You will need to have a collaborative approach and be able to tailor your approach to suit a variety of internal and external customers. Excellent communication and computer skills are a must as you will be working across all of our campuses and talking with a variety of stakeholders.

Essential Knowledge and Skills

Ideally, you will have the following background and experience:

 Relevant Health & Safety qualifications or a willingness to work towards one

  • Experience in a Health and Safety Advisor or Coordinator role an advantage
  • A successful track record with persuading, coaching and influencing
  • A willingness to work independently and as part of a team on key projects
  • Strong organising and prioritising skills
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft programmes and data bases
  • Relationship and stakeholder management experience, including proven negotiation skills.
